Please follow the following steps (in order) to complete your community project.

1. Watch this video first. This video was created by a fourth grade class.

Tell me:
How did this video make you feel?
Why do you think the fourth grade class might have made this video?
Was this a good example of community?
How might a stronger community have changed these situations?

2. Click on the link below and design your own neighborhood. This website does not have all the aspects of a successful community, think about what is missing. As a group, create a Word document that lists and briefly describes at least three (3) items that the Mister Roger's community does not include. This will be turned in as "Checkpoint 1." Make sure all your group members names are on the paper so everyone gets credit!

3. Designate your group members jobs. Every group must have each of the following - once you have decided on your jobs MAKE SURE you post them on the class blog.
-website organizer: While the others in your group are completing their tasks, begin "creating" your website. Explore the changes you can make and set up areas for all the require information (see the "Website Outline" for details)
-researcher 1: Work along side researcher 2 to find out information about other communities that you might use in your own community. Learn about physical aspects, people in the community, leaders in the community, and your role in the community.
-researcher 2: See researcher 1.
-recorder/organizer of information: Gather and organize information as your researchers find it. Act as their agent, decide what info is best and what might be helpful to create your own community.
-artist: With ideas from your group members, begin designing your groups physical layout of your community. I recommend using Paint but feel free to use other programs you feel would help!

4. Start your imaginations - this community is yours! Begin researching and creating!

5. By the end of day 2 of research, post one more blog entry. In this entry - give me at least 3 things that your group has completed/discussed/decided on. This will serve as your second checkpoint. Also, if you're struggling with anything or have any questions, feel free to ask them here!

6. Post all your final findings/creations on your Wikispace!

Directions: After completing all the other tasks – you and your group will be creating your own community. Your “presentation” of this project will be a Wikispace that gives all the information anyone could ever want to learn about your community.
Things to include:
-Name your community
-A picture of your community
-A description of the picture (what is included in your community)
-ONE service project you could do in your community as students
-Facts about your community – at least 3
-Who lives there?
-What are their jobs?
-Does your have leaders? If so, what are their jobs?
-What helps your community function?
